From the Hebrew for 'fruitful'. Saint Ephraim of Nea Makri was a 15th-century monk and martyr who endured torture and death at the hands of Ottoman forces rather than renounce his faith. His relics were revealed in 1950 near Athens and he is venerated as a wonderworker and healer.
