Paisios
Paisius · Paisis
From the Coptic word 'Pishoi' meaning 'exalted' or 'elevated' — a name carried into Greek by the desert fathers of Egypt. Saint Paisios of Mount Athos was a 20th-century monastic elder whose humility, warmth, and spiritual counsel drew thousands of pilgrims to his hermitage. Canonized in 2015, he is among the most beloved modern saints of the Orthodox world.
